Pulley Good Times

Is the cooler weather encouraging thoughts of indoor projects that are easy and cheap to accomplish?

Let this pull at your heart strings...

The Mire Shire lacked in counter space in 2015 and wall space to allow for a towel rack. The thought of placing one on the side of the sink came and went with how low it would be for taller folks. Me standing 5' tall would have been fine at that level. Pretty sure I am in the minority there for The Mire Shire visitors.

My mom and husband were looking at me like our St. Bernard does when perplexed as I explained what I planned to do. Once it was completed there were expressions of "Oh, yeah.....!". Needless to say, my mother asked me to install one in her townhouse for interior design interest. Of course, that has been completed and she loves it.

For whatever reason you desire to do this, know you will get many chuckles and compliments.

The recipe for this is...

  • 1 - Pulley of choice

  • 1- Eye Hook and spray painted to your color desire

  • 1 - Ring of choice to use for the towel to hang on

  • 2 - Pieces of rope of desired length for the area

Where to find these things?

Pulley was found at The RePurposed Shop in downtown Holly for $40. You can find them cheaper at other antique shops as well. Be sure to not shy away from barn sales either! This was an O.L.D. day my best friend and I take every so often. We are old souls in our 30's and pick a town/area and shop our hearts out as we catch up. Not only is it good exercise but mentally refreshing. We leave feeling supported, accomplished and relaxed. Snag a friend and get out there and find your pulley!

The eye hook was bought from Ace Hardware (locally owned and I love supporting the local shops). Keep in mind if you have a smaller pulley you won't need to have as large of an eye hook. I chose the chunky hook to give it more "appeal". It was your standard silver/pewter color so a bit of leftover spray paint from the garage swiftly dolled it up some.

The ring came from a small stand/holder we used for an itty-bitty hand towels (that never got your hands dry). Get creative and look around your place, you're sure to find something suitable. Remember you can always spray paint it to give it new life.

Rope was leftovers from previous outdoor garden projects. Know you can also use chain/ribbon etc. for the pulley and ring to hang from. Even a metal S hook at the top from the eye to the pulley may work well vs. rope.

This is the order you should assemble it.

  1. Measure where you desire to have the towel to hang for ease of use. Follow that up to the ceiling where the eye hook will live.

  2. Spray the eye hook (and ring if desired), let it dry.

  3. Screw the eye hook into the ceiling.

  4. Hold the pulley how low you prefer to see it hang.

  5. Using rope, tie it to the eye hook first and then to the pulley. The pulley's can be heavy so be sure to be steady on whatever ladder you're using to ensure it doesn't slip out of your hands and onto your tile floor. It will cause damage. Give it a little tug to ensure it's anchored in well.

  6. Pull the rope over through the pulley wheel. It will have 2 ropes coming down towards the floor.

  7. Take the ring of choice and hang it at the level for hands to move from the sink to the towel without much fuss.

  8. Tie the ring to the rope.

  9. Place your wonderful towel through the ring.

  10. And TADA!

I hope you love this and if you desire to leave your success stories and pictures below, we'd love to see them!

Enjoy!
