Ever needed a gift for someone who has everything and wants for just your time and love? Making something for someone can seem so overwhelming. When really it truly is the thought that counts.

My father in-law is one of the kindest and loving grandfathers’ out there. He adores Maggurrito and this year we wanted to get him something he’d enjoy for a long time.

When out and about with my best friend at the Michigan Antique Festival (on our Old Lady Day), I stumbled upon a wonderful saw. The seller even cleaned it for me before I took it home. Love this festival as so many great folks attend who sell and are there to buy. It’s truly one of our favorite things to do throughout the year. If you’re ever in Michigan or dare to travel to Midland or Davisburg (our go to location) it’d be worth your stopping by!

I had the saw maybe for a year and knew I wanted to paint on it. Didn’t know exactly what, when this Christmas season…that “one day” came! You know those moments when we buy things and think, “I’ll do something with that one day”? Yep. It happened! How exciting! How pumped was I to get the hook empty and to dream up such a fun gift for Grandpa Jerry!

Here’s how to rock it out. Know this is very simple and applicable to anything you can paint on or create a sign on…

Crafty Ingredients:

  1. Wood Saw - Antique Festival

  2. Acrylic Paint - Craft Store

  3. Paint Brush - Craft Store

  4. Fun Add on goodies. - Anywhere

  5. In our case we used leftover washers and bolts

  6. Gorilla Glue Clear – Wal-Mart but sure can get elsewhere

Step 1: First, I wiped the 1-year old dust off it. 😉

Step 2: I laid the Fun Add on goodies first to see how much space I’d have for my note/message.

Step 3: Glued those down first. Commit and don’t over think this part. 😊 It’s one of the fastest ways for my projects to get stalled.

3. Painted the sign in my swirly twirly gumdrop handwriting. Note: Grandpa Jerry is a professional painter. Don’t let the pressure stop you from doing it. They’ll adore it no matter what. Keep on creating from your heart. Also, if you want to do a practice run on some scrap it’s helpful to get your “painting groove”.

4. (Optional) If you’d like to seal it with a clear coat those are easily found for indoor/outdoor exposure. Be sure to read if it’s matte’ or glossy finish. That’ll make a difference in your result of the paint color and item appearance. Don't be afraid to test them on scrap items first.

Love that you’re taking that leap to empty one of your hooks and creating!
