I counted my blessings Saturday morning through a pink eye and with an ear infection - true story.
There were 6 of the amazing blessings my life beholds. Each woman sitting at the table provided a brave and unique story that allowed all of us to feel fulfilled, involved, loved and empowered.
When I woke at 3 am that morning (one of my many late night adventures to check on the tot, let the dog out or to visit the loo) and felt fine. That same snuggly tot woke up at about 6:30 am and I realized at that point my eye felt odd and my ear wasn’t well. Ran to the urgent care before my very emotionally important annual brunch with some of the strongest and most diverse group of women I’ve had the pleasure to know. Granted our sense of humor tends to be the same age as we may have left googly eyes behind.
It’s true friendship when you text, “I am not missing this year and am coming with pink eye, ear infection, no make-up, hoodie, jeans and snow boots.” The response back was, “ditto on the makeup and not feeling 100%”. We weren’t going to miss it for the world and embraced each other as is. What a beautiful thing. Do know - there was a grand chuckle at the very full IHOP corner booth when I pulled out of my purse hand sanitizer and found the need to use upon forgetting about the pink eye and high fiving a dear friend. Not to mention every time I thought about it throughout the 4 hour brunch we embarked on.
Yes, it was 4 hours.
Hey, it takes a lot to get through 7 women’s annual life update. It always fascinates each of us how we can expose all this raw data to one another and not judge. We stand strong with them during their telling of the tales and giving what we can for insight, advice and love. Time doesn’t change our friendship. When we gather it’s as if we left off right where we had been the year prior. During the time between the annual brunches, we see each other separately and encourage and support one another as we grow. That is true friendship and love.
We discussed not being able to build these types of relationships in the workplace on a regular basis and why not. Ugh. Society... It was a sore spot and we camped on it for quite a bit. The odd thing is we all met at the same work place over 10 years ago. We have been doing this for over ten years. Between layoffs, folks leaving the company and some coming back have held strong to this very special bond - Lucky us.
My heart’s desire is to share this wonderful moment in time because out of this friendship was born an idea that is still in its infancy stages…but we together would like to make an impact on the world. Stay tuned for more on that as the cauldron boils (Glenda and Catherine Bell (Cassie) The Good Witch Style).
The challenge to you is, repurpose a relationship for the good. How can you take it to the next level and make the world a better place? You won’t regret it if you do.
Sorry fellas, this was a little lady heavy. Yet, applicable for you and your pals.
Ladies, you know who you are. Thanks for being all that and a bag of chips. <3
